Immigration
1 month in Austria and 6 months in Italy
Graduated School
Interesting fact: I graduated from 7th grade in Russia, then skipped a year due to immigration and entered 10th grade in New York. In my new school, everyone in my class was studying bookkeeping, which they had started learning in 9th grade. To keep up, I needed to catch up on the 9th-grade curriculum. Since there was no internet back then, I went to the library, found a book, and studied the entire four-year curriculum in just one month. I fell in love with the subject, and my teacher was so impressed that they exempted me from attending regular classes and awarded me numerous honors. From that point, it was clear I was meant to pursue accounting.
Brooklyn College, Bachelor in Science
After graduating, I found that accounting jobs paid very little. At the time, many people were switching careers to computer programming because of the higher salaries, so I decided to study it as well. However, I quickly realized that it wasn’t my passion.
From Intern to Partner
A friend of mine opened a tax office, and I persuaded him to bring me on as an intern. I worked my way up from intern to employee, and eventually became a partner in the business.
